This blogamajig tends to focus on random real museums. But in remembrance of Christopher Hitchens, today I will curate a special collection of screencaps. It’s like a made-up museum in 15 second web form. Last night I was laughing at all the anger and confusion (and ignorance) of twitter twats who did not know God Is Not Great is the name of a book and not the offensive name of a stupid trend. Religious people threatened violence against “whoever started this trend”, you know, the opposite of peace and love. If God exists, these so-called representatives of him on Earth are probably the worst possible examples God could have chosen to spread His message. But I have a feeling Hitchens would have been amused by all this lashing out. A fitting tribute as Hitch got in one last fight with all the reactions. Sorry, people…the #GodIsNotGreat is not a direct insult against you, but it is a book you can easily check out at your nearest library. Read it. You might learn something.
So when I saw this, I found the swell of comments to be a bit of an embarrassment (with the terrible grammar and the violent, un-Christian responses), but I felt more embarrassed by the caption left by the previous blogger. As someone who believes herself to be a logical human being, I feel that people who group Christians as a bunch of ignorant people who jump down other people’s throats are kind of prejudiced. Yes, these people exist, I would never dream of denying it… but doesn’t it make sense that there are people who want to stand up for what they believe in, even if the tag is only the name of a book? And what’s wrong with that? Why do you assume that they’re ignorant just because they’ve never heard of a book title? There are many books out there and it would be naive of anyone to believe that anyone who knows anything should know THIS book.
